The supermini Alfa MiTo blends the Italian names of Milano with Torino or Turin, which are the places where the car was designed and built respectively. More than a city-name combination, the Alfa Romeo MiTo name reinforces the fact that although Alfa Romeo shifted its production roots to the city of Turin in 2008, it continues to recognise Milan’s presence in every one of its car designs, and particularly in the Alfa MiTo. The MiTo is equipped with a 1.4-litre, 16-valve turbo petrol engine that has a power output of 114kW at 5 500rpm. Sporty technical appointments in the Alfa MiTo include the D.N.A system, which adjusts the car’s outputs according to Dynamic (sport), Normal and All Weather (for driving in conditions that necessitate increased traction, such as in wet weather). Active or intelligent suspension provides dynamic control in the Alfa Romeo MiTo, adjusting stability control, power steering and suspension for incredibly sharp handling. The MiTo suspension system consists of McPherson front struts, an anti-roll bar and a rear torsion beam with C cross-section.

Just because the Alfa Romeo MiTo is small doesn’t mean that it isn’t safe. A key safety feature in the MiTo includes power-assisted hydraulic braking, which works to ensure smooth and rapid stopping. Fitted with large ventilated front brake discs, one-piece light aluminium callipers (painted a racy red) and solid rear discs with a floating calliper, the MiTo is able to deliver a sporty drive quality while maintaining its overall light and racy feel. Vehicle Dynamic Control, Anti-lock Brake Systems and Electronic Brake-force Distribution are just some of the technologies that support the MiTo supermini’s sporty, and yet safe, performances. Driver, passenger, front side, window and driver knee airbags (with deactivation switches) provide cushioning in the event of a collision. Security features such as follow-me-home headlights, remote central locking and boot release and an immobiliser and alarm provide protection against unwanted attention.
